Welcome to Teignmouth Weather Station

Welcome to Teignmouth Weather Station website which officially launched on 13th July 2008. The station is situated 500m inland on the eastern side of this South Devon coastal resort and is equipped with a Davis Vantage Pro 2 automatic weather station installed in May 2008. Live data is uploaded to this website every 10 minutes. Data for the past week and past month are also available. As the observed record lengthens monthly and annual summaries will be added. For the time being some simple summary data showing the general climate of Teignmouth are provided. If you hover your mouse over the map to the right a local map of Teignmouth appears showing the location of this station along with other locations in the town where weather and oceanographic data are recorded as described below.

The National Coastwatch Institute (NCI) lookout at Eastcliff on Teignmouth sea front have an anemometer sited on their roof. It's manned from 09:00-19:00 in the summer and 10:00-16:00 during the winter. If you call the duty watchkeeper during these hours on 01626 772377 they can provide a current assessment of weather and sea conditions.

There's also an official climate station on the Den near Teignmouth Pier run by Teignbridge DC where daily climate observations have been taken for over 100 years. Recent data can be viewed here and if you're visiting the town a daily weather report is published after the 09:00 hrs GMT observation in the Resort Office window opposite the pier.

In April 2008 a WaveRadar Rex instrument jointly funded by Plymouth University and Teignbridge District Council was installed at the end of Teignmouth Pier. This measures wave height and period along with tidal data. Data from this instrument is available here on the Channel Coast Observatory website.
