Sittingbourne Weather – Live Data, Forecasts and Local Climate
My interest in weather began in the late 1970s while growing up in Sittingbourne, encouraged by teachers at Grove Park, Fulston Manor and Borden Grammar Schools, and by TVS weatherman Ron Lobeck. Although I moved away many years ago, I wanted to maintain an online presence that continues to share accurate, useful and locally relevant weather information for Sittingbourne and the wider Swale area.
This site provides a detailed 7-day weather forecast for Sittingbourne, updated three times daily using data from the Met Office Data Hub. I’ve tried to answer the everyday questions that standard forecasts often miss such as “Do I need a coat?”, “Is it colder than normal?”, “Will my washing dry today?”. On showery days, timing is everything, so I’ve also added a live rainfall radar sequence to help you see whether anything is heading your way.
The site also brings together 25 years of daily weather observations recorded in southeast Sittingbourne. The record ran from 1985 to early 2010 and is one of the most complete long-term local datasets for the area. I’ve published extreme values and annual statistics from that period, offering a clear picture of Sittingbourne’s climate and long-term trends.
Sittingbourne Weather Station Details
My original Sittingbourne climate station operated from 1 January 1985 to early February 2010 in my parents’ garden in the southeast of the town, around 23 m above mean sea level (lat 51°19.9′ N, long 00°44.7′ E; OS Grid Ref: TQ 9124 6284). Daily observations were taken manually at around 0900 UTC and form the basis of the statistics shown on this site. I made the readings during the 1980s, and from 1990 onwards my dad, with help from my sister, friends and neighbours, kept the record going.
The station measured temperature and humidity in a Stevenson Screen, along with rainfall, wind, snow depth and other variables (except sunshine duration). All readings remain in paper form, but the summary statistics published here provide a clear picture of Sittingbourne’s climate over 25 years.
